After a successful 20-year career as a fully qualified English Language Secondary School teacher in France with the French equivalent of a Master’s degree in Education,(CAPES) followed by a year teaching French and Business Studies in the UK as a qualified teacher (QTS), I have furthered my career by accepting positions in Higher Education in France where I have been able use and develop these teaching skills further.

Other activities have included head of department responsibilities, tutoring new teachers, visiting students on work experience, being a Form Tutor attending ICT and language laboratory courses and promoting the school during Open Days as well as undertaking many professional development courses.

I am also an examiner for written and oral French Baccalaureate and BTS examinations as well as manning the local authority teachers’ Hot Line during the exam period and have recently been named as an examiner for the IBO.

My experience in Higher Education has included teaching Business English at Neoma Business School where my classes have included many international students and one of my tasks has been to prepare pupils for their studies abroad following courses given in English, whatever their destination might be, with modules including lesson on Summaries, Plagiarism, Business Report Writing, Business Letters, Thesis-driven Essays, and Harvard referencing.

I have been Head of Department in Neoma Business School since January 2015 with 22 teachers and over 6000 hours of English lessons to organize

Tasks at Neoma, Reims University and Soissons IUT, have also included preparation courses and proctoring for IELTS, TOEIC and TOEFL examinations which have given me a further insight into the needs of students in academic, business and everyday English as well as work on presentation techniques for seminars.

Other specialities taught are English for Electrical Engineering and Computer Science students

The latest training courses attended have dealt with on-line resources (Moodle) and use of in-class interactive whiteboard software and my personal development reading has included books such as EAP Essentials by O.Alexandre.

As a supply teacher, ability to adapt to varied working conditions and integrate the existing teams rapidly has been important, especially at RMS, where I work with many colleagues of different nationalities, some of whom I coach to improve their level of academic English.

Having lived and studied abroad myself, having children who have recently studied and worked in the UK as well as teaching many foreign students at the moment, I am well aware of the difficulties some foreign students face to adapt and feel well placed to offer them advice on cultural integration.
