Il porte un vif intérêt aux sujets macroéconomiques qu'il commente dans la presse française et internationale. Ses recherches portent sur la théorie du malinvestissement, la zombification économique et les routines entrepreneuriales. Les recherches de Gabriel ont été publiées dans Small Business Economics, The World Economy, Journal of Economic Issues, entre autres.
